Free Public Records
Searching public records can yield an absolute avalanche of information about your subject. Vital records information like property, marriage, divorce, birth and tax records are all available at your local county courthouse.
In fact, some of the most private personal information like someone’s social security number, date of birth, driver’s license number, voter’s information, marriage records, criminal records, dmv records and other vital records are readily available for you to peruse by visiting the local courthouse.
Case in point, I was researching a local subject recently and instead of taking my usual (read: lazy) approach and simply crank up a background profile from Choicepoint, I took a trip to my county courthouse. Ten minutes after logging on their excellent computer system, I had the following information about my subject:
The subject’s criminal history in that county
The subject’s SSN, DOB, driver’s license number and vehicle registration (From his DUI convictions)
Current address, employer, and phone number (from his parole information).
No special access was granted to me for my public records research. All of the public records information I found was available to anyone who could use a computer! And best of all, this information was fresh, directly from the tap, and FREE!
So by all means, don’t hesitate to do your own public records search directly at the source. After all, your tax dollars have paid for it!
